Katy's Current Tips: The Skirt

The skirt, the staple diet of the Autumn trends, the must have of winter. But which skirt style is for you? I'm not talking length - I'm not talking fabric, I'm talking PLEATS.

I'm sure you all own a pleated skirt but this season we are being struck by various types of pleat. Depending on the weather and depending on your outfit  - there's a skirt for everyone.

1. Contra pleat ( Ted Baker £119 ) - The contra pleat is my current personal favourite, these extremely pleated skirts use contrasting colours to add depth to the material and create unique and interesting garments. They're naturally a statement piece so no need to worry too much about the rest of your outfit. This particular piece is great with the shades of grey accentuating the length of the leg, simply add knee high boots to create the on trend 70's vibe.

2. Traditional pleat ( Jaeger £165 ) - This style is the traditional style of the pleated skirt, with a loose fitting creased pattern making an a-line skirt all of a sudden a statement piece. We see this in both mini and maxi styles. The piece I have shown here is Jaeger's take on the traditional look, taking a knee length skirt and making a classy feminine look.

3. Inverted pleat ( ASOS £30 ) - This ASOS example shows the inverted pleat. The inverted pleat is essentially the box pleat in reverse, making the depth of the pleat on the inside of the skirt rather than the outside. This type of skirt comes in various materials, leatherette's and silks are used on a regular basis as they exhibit the pleat the best.

The V&S treatment

Tarzan trend / welcome to the jungle!

Whether it be leopard print or tapestry inspired animal imagery this trend seems to be on the tip of our tongues. Introduced in late S/S 2013 the trend has made a quick transition into autumn/winter 13. You can catch the trend in the form of hoodies and tees and for the girl who likes to show a bit of skin you can also see the trend in body suits and bandeaus.
Retail giants such as ASOS have jumped on this trend and have a variety garments to tingle your taste buds, but don’t get it twisted Re:So has some hard hitters with this trend to compete with these fashion leaders .

Don’t think we have forgotten you gents! The trend has also made its way into the men’s wear market. The first debut was the very popular Rottweiler t-shirt designed by Givenchy, now it has made its way into bags for women’s and men’s A/W 13. You could say that this tee has catapulted the trend to what it is today, so many thanks Mr. Givenchy it’s very much appreciated.

NOW!! Enough about them, you can get this trend at Re:So ! I know exciting right, I thought as much. In store we have animal inspired prints and imagery that you can’t get anywhere else. These one of a kind pieces will help you channel your inner creative creature.

Wolf academy top

It was £28.00 now £25.00!

To wrap this up I think a few wise words from a fellow fashion lover would be acceptable so LET’S GO!
"It’s a new era in fashion - there are no rules. It’s all about the individual and personal style, wearing high-end, low-end, classic labels, and up-and-coming designers all together."
— Alexander McQueen
Oh Alex how we miss you so, see you next week J
